Writer. Illustrator. Unicorn Enthusiast.
Hi, hi, hi.
My name is Jessie Unicorn Moore, and I’m a writer, illustrator, unicorn enthusiast, and Highly Interesting Person.
I am originally from the Jersey Shore (the part where Snooki partied though I never met her). I studied Illustration at Pratt Institute in New York, and then worked for many years in the greeting card industry in New York and Seattle.
In 2007, I founded the dessert blog CakeSpy, which became a hit sensation and made me a Minor Internet Celebrity. I ran the blog for 11 years, but eventually decided to shut it down in 2018 to pursue other interests.
As CakeSpy, I authored two fantastic cookbooks: CakeSpy Presents Sweet Treats for a Sugar-Filled Life, and The Secret Lives of Baked Goods, and co-wrote Baking With Steel along with Andris Lagsdin of Baking Steel. I also have several non-food books, including Stuff Unicorns Love (published by Adams Media) and three incredible coloring books: The Unicorn Coloring Book, Another Unicorn Coloring Book, and The Cupcake Coloring Book.
Concurrent to my time as a semi-famous dessert blogger I also worked on a variety of writing and illustrating projects ranging from a peanut butter company to a mattress company to a CrossFit celeb (really).
These days, I focus on freelance writing and illustration. I have worked with a variety of clients, including Serious Eats, Craftsy.com, New Mexico Magazine, the Seattle Times, The Fresh Toast, Taste of Home, Wine Enthusiast, the James Beard Foundation, and many more. I also maintain a personal eating disorder recovery blog.
As a writer and illustrator, I pride myself on always delivering content that is well thought-out, clever, and always a little quirky.
Oh, and have I mentioned I’m a Highly Interesting Person and World Traveler? I’ve lived in New Jersey, New York City, Seattle, Santa Fe, Asheville NC, and Philadelphia, have a fantastic unicorn collection, and occasionally teach yoga.
